An ultrasound pregnancy detector which identifies the presence ofamniotic fluid in the uterus. This fluid reaches its maximum about 90days after mating, and this is the most effective time for pregnancytesting with this device, although it can give good results from 60-120days after mating. Cooking oil or vaseline is first smeared under theright flank of the ewe to ensure airless contact between the probe andthe skin. The probe is then applied. A steady signal indicates good skincontact, and a louder faster signal indicates the presence of amnioticfluid and pregnancy. Ewe gestation is approx. 150 days from mating. TheDraminski pregnancy tester is powered by a 9v alkaline battery. Note:There is some skill required to use this device with reasonableaccuracy. It is advisable for the inexperienced operator to practice onknown pregnant and barren ewes first. The tester will not identifymultiple foetus.
